Your body knows when things aren't right

PM Career Alignment Tip: Pay attention to what your body tells you about certain work and life situations. No matter how much you force, or play square peg round hole...

Your body will always find ways to tell you something ain't jiving.

Take me, for example...

For years, the skin around my nails was ripped to shreds. My clear post-braces daytime retainer was mangled when I removed it at night. I was in the gym 3-4x/wk, walked 1 hr/day on lunch breaks, and my body and bones still ached. I felt lightheaded a lot, because I'd hold my breath while playing CYA in hostile situations.

That's damn good data.

So put on your neutral, non-judgey observer hat and pay attention.

During certain meetings and around certain people, are you:

  • Clenching your jaw?

  • Holding your tongue to the roof of your mouth?

  • Picking your nails?

  • Feeling the urge to multitask?

  • Holding your breath?

Your body could be telling you it's time to revamp how you experience your work. Because bitten-through retainers, needing distractions, and persistent body aches ain't it, fam.

I chose to give myself better. I hope you do, too.

How does YOUR body tell you it’s had enough of a situation?
