I interviewed for a PM gig at a digital marketing startup back in 2012. During the 5th (😐) interview, the CEO asked, “Do you have a passion for content?!”
I knew what I was supposed to say. But I answered, “No,” because I didn’t have a passion for content. And I still don’t.
Nah, see, what I have a passion for is informed implementation. Tailor-made strategies. Bridging gaps. Inspired action and consistent evaluation.
It’s true—content informs and inspires us. It helps us think outside the box, connect dots, and remember we’re not alone.
But constantly consuming content and not implementing any of it will keep you stuck. And it'll keep you from being able to think for yourself. Which means you’ll have all the "right" words but no personal evidence to back any of it up.
Next time you feel the itch to find and consume more content... Take stock of what you’ve already collected (saved posts, pins, articles, etc.). Then ask: “Have I implemented this in my own life yet?”
- If you've already implemented one of those cool ideas, great! How’d it go?
- If you haven’t implemented any of those cool ides yet, well... pick one to implement. Then measure. Then tweak. Now repeat.
The more you do it, the less daunting it feels. I promise.
(Oh, and I totally got that job. 😉 🎉 Honesty has always served me well.) Happy Friday, beautiful people! You got this!
