Does leaving something that’s not a good fit mean that you're weak? Nope.
Leaving something that's not a good fit means means you’re walking in integrity with who you are. And that’s strength.
The role could be:
- A once-rewarding role you’ve now outgrown.
- A brand new role you realize early on is NOT a fit.
- A frustrating, cluster-what of “gotcha” you’re done playing.
- A job you spend all your free time psyching up for or recovering from.
We’re resourceful and resilient. We don’t want to be seen as quitters.
So when a role isn’t working out, we feel guilty.
We squish ourselves into odd shapes every day for optics’ sake…
Because the thought of OTHERS being uncomfortable with our choice to move on or make changes is just too… uncomfortable.
Which means we stay in situations that don’t fit us.
Do you hear me?
We stay in discomfort, to avoid feeling discomfort, because others may be uncomfortable, when we make decisions for ourselves that bring us closer to OUR personal or career goals. 🤯

Please know… the guilt we tend to feel in the project, program, and product spaces when a role isn’t working out is neither productive nor helpful. It just makes you feel small. Right?

Instead of waking up each day and being an untrained, non-double jointed contortionist to avoid the discomfort of others being uncomfortable (ironic)...
Practice identifying what’s not a fit, speaking up about it, and either working on a fix or finding a better match.
Practice that till it’s normal. And help others practice, too.
We are humans. We grow and evolve.
And we HAVE to advocate for ourselves before anyone else will. ❤️
